Glossary
-
Anaerobic Digestion
Process that transforms organic waste into raw biogas.
-
Biogas
Gas produced through Anaerobic Digestion of organic waste, consisting mainly of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2), impurities and other pollutants, such as water, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), siloxanes, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), nitrogen and oxygen.
-
Upgrading
Process of treating biogas to transform it into biomethane.
-
Biomethane
Biomethane is a gas consisting almost exclusively of methane. It is produced through upgrading of biogas.
-
N2 and O2
Nitrogen and oxygen. Their presence in landfill gas makes its necessary to perform a cryogenic distillation to be able to produce biomethane.
-
Bio-CNG
Compressed Natural Gas produced from biomethane.
-
Bio-LNG
: Liquefied Natural Gas produced from biomethane.
-
BOG
Boil-Off Gas. It is the fraction of gas produced from evaporation of LNG.
-
LBG
« Liquid Biogas ». Equivalent to bio-LNG.
-
LBM
« Liquid Biomethane ». Equivalent to bio-LNG.
-
RNG
« Renewable Natural Gas ». Equivalent to biomethane.
-
Bio-CO2
CO2 produced from biogas.
-
NGV
Natural Gas Vehicle.
-
CNG
Compressed Natural Gas (fossil origin).
-
LNG
Liquefied Natural Gas (fossil origin).
-
Gasification
Process that transforms carbonaceous materials (like wood waste) into synthesis gas (syngas) consisting mainly of methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and hydrogen (H).
-
Syngas
Synthesis Gas produced through gasification of carbonaceous materials.
